Decorating with Style

As we’ve lived in our current home for some time now, we’re getting the itch to give it some updates, to freshen things up and add some more modern features. Built in the mid 1990’s, the house is not very old, but many of the features have become a little outdated and worn. Carpets that need replacing, appliances that are not as energy efficient as they could be. Though we likely wouldn’t put new carpets in many of the rooms and would opt for some more modern green flooring like bamboo, and then place some nice area rugs over them to add some warmth where needed. One of my favorite places to browse for ideas is Better Homes and Gardens.

Their magazine and online site gives us plenty of great ideas, including ways we can update our outdoor space as well as our indoor living areas. One of the first rooms we’ll start with is the kitchen. Updating a kitchen is always a good investment, whether you’re planning on selling your home or not. Plus, many of us spend a lot of time in the kitchen, so it’s worth making it as enjoyable and accessible as possible. Then next on our list will be installing new windows so we can take advantage of the tax credit too. Once that’s done we’ll move onto the bathrooms, where we might just make some minor visual changes rather than large ones since the tubs, showers, and sinks are still quite nice. Like any big project, the list never ends.
